With a broken heart, I did not vote Labour
Friday, 14th May 2021
• I AM a life-long Labour supporter but, for the first time in my life and with a broken heart, I did not vote Labour this May.
The reason is simple. Labour are not putting the existential climate and ecological crises at the centre of their policies on housing, job creation and transport.
Right now they are a superficial after-thought tacked on in the small print in an effort to pick up a few extra votes.
Labour should be shouting from the roof tops that we deserve a better, fairer, society where wellbeing is the overarching aim, not the unsustainable eternal growth of GDP, which is dangerously depleting the finite resources of our planet.
A road map for tackling the climate and ecological crises already exists: The Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill (www.ceebill.uk), now supported by more than 100 MPs.
So, Labour, I will not vote for you again until you step out from the shadow of “business as usual” and embrace bold, new, inspiring, policies for the future of all our children.
The recovery of our natural world is not “a nice-to-have” but an essential guiding principle.
