The sports pitch in Luxborough Street

• HAVE readers noticed the building site in Luxborough Street, Marylebone? Nearly 1,000 residents signed a petition to keep the play space open for young people.

The play space provided the ideal opportunity for children to expend their energy through play, to keep them fit, healthy, build their self-confidence and, most importantly, reduce anti-social behaviour.

Westminster’s Conservative councillors voted to build on this unique play space despite it being against the wishes of the local police, social workers, so many residents, and the young people themselves.

Central Westminster does need more homes, but why build on a play space when there is so much empty office space available that could be repurposed carefully for the area’s diverse housing needs?

The Luxborough Street Play Space was classified by Westminster City Council in public documents as a “protected open space”, supposedly “protected” by the city council.

It is not too late to stop this building work. Westminster Labour supports the campaign to save the play space in Luxborough Street.

As Labour Party candidates for the Marylebone ward, are pleased to support the Save Our Space campaigners in their struggle to save the play space in Luxborough Street for young people to enjoy.
