• LABOUR’S Cllr Julian Fulbrook told the election meeting in Holborn that volunteer hand-outs in Lincoln’s Inn Fields were no longer solely used by the homeless but were attracting “lonely old men”, (Row over free food for rough sleepers, April 26).

If lonely men are turning up for free sandwiches then they must have unmet physical / psychological needs or may be eking out exiguous incomes. Urban foxes and birds should be able to deal with any transitory comestible discards.
