When we had measles they wouldn’t let my sisters and I into the air raid shelter

• THERE is a lot of talk at the moment of measles and vaccination for children. It suddenly took me back nearly 80 years.

My two sisters and myself all had measles together. I remember a big cross in a circle put on our street door by officials. We were not allowed to mix with anyone else and nobody was allowed to come into our house.

There was no vaccination then. We had a lot of bombing at that time but we were not allowed to go into the air raid shelter. I remember it was a very heavy raid on a certain night. I could not sleep, and was very hot and lying in my bed listening to the bombing.
