• I ALWAYS accepted that our world had its fair share of craziness in the way we do things, but your report really takes the biscuit, (Eco campaigners call for an end to waste sent abroad for recycling, January 13).

What sort of idiots are we to spend all that time sorting out our rubbish and agonising whether it is put in the appropriate bin for recycling only for it to be loaded by the thousands of tonnes into big fuel-guzzling container ships and transported abroad? (And probably dumped into landfill elsewhere on the same planet).

And, of course, some chancers are making a fortune out of all this nonsense.
