‘The BBC: How better to keep oneself informed, educated and entertained without ads?’

• HOW can RS Smyth be so dismissive of BBC Radio 4? (The BBC is not what it used to be… February 27).

It offers programmes on such a wide range of topics (history, food, gardening, films, the arts, music, science, health, the environment, the media, books, reading, consumer issues, money, society, comedy, all the arts, discussions on the topics of the day, politics, news [the Today programme apart] dare one say, and other people’s lives at home and abroad, to name but a few)?

What’s not to be interested in? How better to keep oneself informed, educated and entertained without ads and whilst being able to get on with other things? And what’s wrong with The Archers? It’s just one soap.
