‘Not-Safe-To-Be-Me’ protest in Whitehall, led by Trans Activism UK [Simon Lamrock]

• I WRITE to commend the Extra for its characteristically-positive coverage of Pride and LGBT+ equality matters, particularly of the recent Not-Safe-To-Be-Me protest outside Downing Street.

It is clear that the current government and leadership of the Conservative party is deliberately stirring up suspicion and mistrust of trans+ people and their allies as a part of a manufactured culture war to distract the public’s attention from their failings elsewhere.

Various sections of the media appear to be running an ongoing campaign to encourage the exclusion of trans+ people from society, perhaps to bolster the transphobic comments made by certain senior cabinet ministers.

As a woman I commend the bravery of the protesters and fully accept the scientifically and medically-verified fact that trans+ women are women and vice-versa for trans+ men.
