• THIS very hot weather has shown the urgent need for modern free public drinking fountains to be provided extensively.

This is also necessary to get people to stop buying bottled water, which results in the plastic bottles being discarded and adding to the mountain of plastic around already.

Also many homeless people – and their dogs – are becoming dehydrated owing to the lack of water available to them.

Water is a necessity of life. It is high time all the private water companies, like Thames Water, were brought into public ownership.

In the meantime, are councils doing anything about looking at where these drinking fountains can be put?
