• IN the same issue of Westminster Extra (March 17), there emerge facets of ethnicity in the United Kingdom.

A really good story is that of Peter Brown as the (‘Last of the RAF’s World War II black pilots’).

It comes to mind there are very good books on black personnel in the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy, plus those in the British Army.

But so far, as is known to me, there is only a children’s book on the subject in the Royal Flying Corps to Royal Air Force sequence.

It is surely about time that a serious history on this matter is written and published.

Another question regularly appearing in the Extra is that of forms of anti-Semitism.

As someone who has no religion and is not a member of any political party, it has long appeared to me that in their zeal to close down criticism of the Israeli government within the Labour Party, the Board of Deputies of British Jews and related bodies somewhat took their eye off the ball.

With racism of most kinds on the rise, on the balance of history, it was surely inevitable anti-Semitism would be part of it or would follow in its wake.

However the lesson of history is that we never learn the lessons of history and continue with the same mistakes.

Perhaps Labour should have done what the Conservatives did to stifle discussion about Islamophobia in their party, namely set up an internal investigation and then stay silent on such matters. This seems to have worked.

The prominent Conservatives who raised such matters would appear to have put loyalty to their party above all else.
