Walking is so difficult on cluttered streets

One vision of multimillion-pound plan to improve Oxford Street
• I READ with interest and trepidation on the widening of pavements and the adding of more trees, seating and cycle provision, (Go-ahead for £90m Oxford Street upgrade, January 19).
Living in W1 my experience of the same type of exercise on Baker Street and Tottenham Court Road has not inspired confidence.
Both streets have tried this and it seems to narrow the area to walk (the main purpose of a pavement).
Both streets are now so cluttered, with seats and tables, and parking spots for bikes and scooters, it has made walking more difficult.
Also the wider pavements have just encouraged cyclists and scooter riders on to the pavements.
