Marble Arch Mound 3

The Marble Arch Mound

• WESTMINSTER’S residents must vote for a council that will not waste millions of pounds on white elephants like the Marble Arch Mound, who will protect public libraries and ensure that a new main library building is developed and will not become a book stall inside the Seymour Leisure Centre.

The new Westminster City Council must stop leasing public squares like Cavendish Square to commercial enterprises (Underbelly) against residents’ wishes. And it should refuse to sell off the Luxborough Street, Marylebone, playground area to developers.

It’s enough that the current Conservative council supports the demolition of the classic Marks & Spencer block on Oxford Street, in favour of a glass and steel monstrosity, no doubt with expensive plans to redevelop Oxford Street and Oxford Circus to attract tourists.

Whatever the current council’s pledges, each and every one of them voted for the £6million mound and have yet to account for such a forensically appalling lack of due diligence. Make your vote count because the Conservative financial staff cannot!
