Vacant shops could house new public loos

• THAT vacant shops can be converted to houses without planning permission may be good news in an unexpected quarter.

One major omission, especially since the pandemic, is the lack of facilities, or toilets.

What better than to take over a number of empty shops in the borough and redevelop them as toilets of a high-build quality with two categories of toilet, one free and one chargeable.

The sites, which would be accessible, could include units for wheelchair users and a section for breastfeeding. Floors above could become storage facilities and space for staff.

This would be a capital programme which would provide a much needed facility.
