The protest
THE huge protest against Donald Trump and the far right on Friday can act as a springboard for the anti-fascist movement, campaigners said this week.
The Together Against Trump demonstration was one of the largest weekday protests since George Bush visited the UK in 2003.
It is believed more than 250,000 people came to protest against the United States president on Friday.

The following day an estimated 3,000 supporters of Tommy Robinson – the far right activist and co-founder of the English Defence League – protested in Trafalgar Square.
They were confronted by thousands of anti fascist protesters. Later that day an RMT official was left bloodied after being attacked in the street near Parliament Square.
The Unite Against Fascism group said the Trump demo showed “the enormous breadth of anti-racist feeling in Britain”, adding: “The task for anti-fascists now is to build on the momentum of the recent demonstrations in London and Yorkshire to develop the kind of movement that can challenge the racists for control of the streets.
“That will take massive mobilisations that draw on all sections that are potential victims of fascist violence – trade unionists, Muslims, migrants, women, LGBT+ people, black people and many others.
“The shocking attacks on trade unionists shows that we cannot afford to not build the kind of unity that we need to smash the fascists.”
