Camden Town WFC beat Greenwich Borough 3-0 at Goals Eltham in South London on Sunday in Division One North of the London & South East Regional League [Camden Town WFC]
TWO games, two wins, eight goals scored and just one conceded: anyone who thought it was going to take Camden Town WFC time to settle in Division One North of the London & South East Regional League might just need to think again.
Harry Sherman’s high-flying side made it back-to-back wins on the road in their new surroundings on Sunday when they beat Greenwich Borough 3-0 at Goals Eltham in South London.
Praising the unity that exists within the squad, Town chairman Richard Mahoney, who lives in Islington, said: “It’s been a really positive start to the season; two wins on the road against Ashford United and Greenwich Borough, and we sit top of the league.
“Fixture-wise it’s been a tough start, but we couldn’t have asked for more from our coaching staff and our players. The commitment and togetherness is outstanding.”
Town set the tone from the first whistle at the weekend with an aggressive high press, immediately forcing mistakes from the home side.
Captain Kelly Faye almost broke the deadlock, intercepting a loose pass and unleashing a rasping effort that flew narrowly wide.
The breakthrough soon arrived with summer signing Hannah Forbes opening her account for the club in style.
The striker collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area before lofting a perfectly judged chip over the onrushing goalkeeper.
“It was a great feeling to get my first goal in Camden Town colours,” said a delighted Forbes after the game. “The team worked really hard, and there’s such a positive atmosphere around the club right now.
“I feel very lucky to be part of it, and I’m excited about what we can achieve together this season.”
Camden continued to dominate and put the game to bed in the first half thanks to Victory Edema’s deadly quickfire double. The fleet-footed forward showed great composure in a one-on-one to calmly tuck away her first goal of the afternoon, before putting the result beyond doubt with a thunderous strike from distance.
The visitors continued to push for more goals after the break while remaining resolute at the back. In the end, the 3-0 win was enough to keep Town top of the table on goal difference ahead of another tricky away day this Sunday at Bromley.
Then comes Camden Town’s long-awaited first home game of the season when they take on Essex-based side Frontiers Ladies in the first round qualifying of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley on Sunday, September 7.
