Jordyn Galway’s goal proved decisive as Camden Town WFC beat rivals Islington Borough in the Capital Cup at the Maurice Rebak Stadium
THE wait proved worthwhile for players from Camden Town WFC as they finally made their return to action on Sunday after five weeks without a competitive match.
After starting 2025 with back-to-back postponements, Town’s rest over winter lasted longer than they had hoped. But the squad didn’t need any extra motivation when they did finally step back out onto the pitch to take on neighbouring rivals Islington Borough for a place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious Capital Cup.
In the end a composed strike from midfielder Jordyn Galway proved decisive as Town triumphed 1-0 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley.
“The score doesn’t reflect how much we controlled the game, but I’m thrilled to have secured the goal so early on,” said match-winner Galway.
“It feels amazing to help the team reach the quarter-finals.”
Town manager Harry Sherman said he was pleased with the performance that his side put in following the extended break. He added: “Having not played in such a long time, it was really important for us to gain control of the game as much as possible, defend well, and create as many chances to score as we could.
“I’m really pleased with how we performed as a team in all of those aspects. It was a great performance to build on as we now move into a very packed end to the season.”
