CAMDEN Town WFC inadvertently did rivals Islington a big favour on Sunday when they became only the second team this season to take points off Actonians Reserves in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League.
Boasting home advantage, Town “executed the perfect game plan” as they battled out a goalless draw at Wingate & Finchley FC. The only other team to earn a draw against Actonians this term was in fact Islington, who now find themselves four points behind the league leaders with two games in hand.
After seeing Town climb to fifth in the nine-team table, the club’s technical director, Richard Mahoney, said: “It’s been a great start to 2023, the team have really pulled together under the guidance of our new manager Harry Sherman.
“After beating South London 5-1 in the cup the previous weekend we knew we would be facing a tougher challenge against Actonians, who are such a powerhouse in women’s football and are unbeaten in the league so far this season. Harry had a game plan and the players bought into it and executed it perfectly and we could have easily walked away with all three points.”
