• AFTER the reaction to a US company’s takeover of GP practices was greeted with almost universal opprobrium, we now hear that one of that company’s bosses has been recruited to the inner circle in Downing Street, (GP takeover firm’s boss to be health adviser at No 10, April 1).

There may be excellent arguments as to why National Health Service privatisation is a good thing, but we never hear them.

All we hear is declarations of love for the NHS from people who nevertheless think its staff deserve only a derisory 1 per cent increase in wages that have so far failed to retain personnel and resulted in drastic and chronic staff shortages.
