Second Pfizer vaccine cancelled: ‘Overnight desperation has given way to fury. How dare they?’

• WHEN I was given my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the well-organised and welcoming Peckwater Health Centre three weeks ago, I already had a date and a time for the second.

On the way out, I was given a leaflet which told me: You will receive two injections, given 21 days apart. If you receive one dose of Covid-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2, you should receive a second dose of the same vaccine 21 days later to complete the vaccination series. Protection against Covid-19 disease may not be effective until at least seven days after the second dose.

On January 17 I got a phone call from NHS England (who had been asked by GP surgeries to undertake this unpleasant task) to tell me that my January appointment had been cancelled.

I am 86 years old and have been observing rigid lockdown since March with my husband who is registered as highly vulnerable. We both have medical problems that involve hospital visits. Overnight desperation has given way to fury. How dare they?
