Cheeky, comical starlings [Tim Felce (Airwolfhouse)_CC BY-SA 2.0]
• NO doubt local naturalist and bird expert twitterer Bill Oddie would be able to answer my question…
On being a frequent goer to Camden Lock Market I like to sit at the tables, joining all the tourists tucking into sweet and sour chicken, noodles, stir-fry and rice.
Then we have company – remarkable! Birds appear on the table in front of us, quite cheeky, comical.
So we must carefully keep an eye our food!
Tame. Songbirds, iridescent and chunky black with long sharp bills who like to fly in a tight flock.
They imitate other birds’ notes. These gregarious birds are starlings.
Suddenly a beautiful sound fills the air, like giving one entertainment. They sing to you, rather like a wheezy, whistling, sound!
What brings these lovely birds to this area of London? Why do they like it here?
