There’s much we have lost at the Tricycle theatre
Thursday, 15th November 2018
• BEFORE the new director took over there was a rich programme of events and activities, regular exhibitions of the work of local artists and photographers, a life drawing class attended by working artists and students, and a children’s drama group.
At the Tricycle I have attended poetry group presentations, concerts and stand-up comedians’ shows there. And rooms were available for local residents meetings. All these have gradually been phased out, and without any general or substantial consultation.
Not only is the theatre subsidised by the local council it is a registered charity, with the stated aims of using multiple cultural activities to enrich the local community (see their entry on the Charity Commission register). It is now failing to meet these aims and the community is the poorer for it.
