Westminster’s new Waste Action Squad members
• AS part of our commitment to keep Westminster’s streets clean, the first Waste Action Squad week took place in Hyde Park ward, with a particular focus on Edgware Road.
The team spent over 40 hours engaging with residents and monitoring 10 hot-spot locations for dumping and waste. They spoke to 258 people.
All food businesses along a section of Edgware Road were visited by enforcement officers where highway staining was an issue.
The businesses were spoken to about their waste arrangements and how they present it; 76 investigations into waste abandoned on the street were undertaken by city inspectors and Veolia carried out additional work within the hot-spot areas, deep-cleaning all 10 of the worst.
Squads have also been active in Fitzrovia and Pimlico and action plans to resolve the key issues highlighted by the community will be put in place.
Over the coming months all parts of Westminster borough with have Waste Action Squad activity as we deliver our commitment to keep the streets clean.
