Tavistock Torrington Proposed Layout-1

Impression of the current road layout under trial

• DAN Harper is right that there is no congestion on the Tavistock-Torrington corridor, (Clean air is the priority, June 14). But this is because the trial displaced corridor traffic onto the surrounding streets.

Rather than noting the obvious, that pollution has improved on a street where traffic has decreased, we need effective pollution monitoring across the whole area.

We all agree that air quality is important but decisions about how to achieve a reduction in pollution should be made on the basis of evidence, not anecdote.

The inquiry inspector has given us a way forward which is evidence-based and balanced. The inspector spent weeks hearing evidence and months evaluating it.

Our council spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on the inquiry. We should all read the report and the council should follow its recommendations.
