The shadow Brexit secretary has the perfect opportunity to put Labour on the right side of history

• I WOULD urge Sir Keir Starmer to take his own advice and listen to the “will of the people” when he formulates policy on what is day-by-day looking like a hard and destructive Brexit.

Three-quarters of people in Camden voted to stay in the EU and since the new year opinion polls have shown support for EU membership outweighing opposition. That is no surprise.

The NHS has got shortages as EU nurses and doctors stay at home. Prices have gone up in our shops thanks to the fall in the pound and will probably rise further now that we learn food is rotting in the field as eastern Europeans stay at home.

The shadow Brexit secretary has the perfect opportunity to put Labour on the right side of history. If he needs advice he can heed Sir Nick Clegg, who said the Labour politicians would be committing “…the greatest act of betrayal in progressive politics in 100 years” by supporting a Tory Brexit.
