‘An insistence on the untrammelled right to drive and pollute’
• WHENEVER I read letters from opponents of low traffic neighbourhoods, LTNs, it is very noticeable that none campaign in favour of more traffic on their own streets.
Instead, they want cars diverted from near their homes as it is apparently not fair that they have to suffer excess traffic.
Unless habits change, those cars will then go elsewhere, presumably making someone else’s street congested.
Anti-LTN campaigners do not recognise that the root problem is cars and an insistence on the untrammelled right to drive and pollute.
Surely the obvious conclusion is that there is simply too much traffic, not that it is in the “wrong place” because of the LTNs.
