• MUCH has been made of the amounts of money spent on accommodating migrants in hotels in order to fulfil the United Kingdom’s obligations under the International Refugee Convention.

But the real scandal is that our government has not the humanity to extend such a duty of care to its own citizens by ensuring that all have a roof over their heads.

Evidently this could be done as it was during the Covid-19 epidemic. But were the homeless then seen as units of potential infection rather than fellow human beings?

All humans should have a home to go to. And we in this country have the means to accommodate that, citizens and migrants alike.
