The night street crime problems are ignored
Thursday, 20th October 2022
• IN September you kindly published my letter (It’s becoming a no-go area, September 23) referring to the appalling lack of policing about St Giles, Phoenix Street and Shaftesbury Avenue areas.
Having also copied in Camden Council, Mayor of London, and our MP, I have received only one response – from representatives of Camden’s Safer Community Team.
Alas it appears they cannot help the late-night community as it’s not within their “remit”. Safer community apparently only applicable weekdays, 9am-5pm.
I’m sure Sir Keir Starmer has better things to do than encourage bumbling local officials to do their job, while Sadiq Khan may have such pressing issues as new bus seat colours to decide upon. So my question as to who is responsible for fleecing us of additional charges for non-existent late-night policing remains unanswered.
It used to be criminals that demanded protection money for no return. Does no one care that visitors, residents and employees remain at constant risk of encountering aggressive street crime every night?
