The new partying in Soho hasn’t the right appeal

• WESTMINSTER City Council’s ill-advised determination to replace the elegantly raffish atmosphere – for which Soho has been renowned – with a permanently raucous, down-market, street party (complete with clattering police helicopters) entirely undermines their gentrification fantasies.
This is because it is unlikely to appeal to potential clients of the plethora of high-end apartments and boutique hotels thrown up by all those dodgy planning applications. As usual they haven’t thought this through.
