The encampments are back in Park Lane

Friday, 2nd August 2024

• I AM appalled to see the growing encampment of beggars on Park Lane.

They are not homeless people in need. They are professional beggars who summer here in their tent city.

Marble Arch is a major tourist spot, and it beggars belief that the authorities have done nothing to detain and deport them.

Equipped with al fresco cooking and dining, and the Marble Arch fountains supplying their water, they are in full sight from all the buses.

Ironically I understand they may be living on Transport for London land, so why hasn’t TfL taken charge of this issue?

As a local resident I recognise the same beggars, year on year.

Asylum seekers are denied safe routes but the beggars seem to have no problem gaining entry and immunity!

We have a makeshift campsite full of “homeless” migrants in one of the capital’s wealthiest areas.

The police and street wardens stand by as the anti-social, begging, campers congregate around Marble Arch.

A court order and deportation should be immediately issued.
