The city council can help curb diesel vehicles by using planning powers too

Exhaust diesel fumes

• IT is good to see Westminster City Council copying Islington Council in a diesel parking charge to help reduce air pollution in our city, (Massive parking charge hike for diesel vehicles across Westminster planned, August 3).

It’s bad enough that petrol stations along Marylebone Road under Dorset House are promoting low diesel prices when residents above did not want the station operational after it lay empty for so long.

Furthermore the council have been insisting on the incorporation of petrol stations in new developments like that along Cleveland Street, which residents around the proposal did not want.

So should not the council use its planning powers on this front as well as its parking powers for incentives to stop using diesel vehicles?
