King Charles III was crowned without a discussion on what the public wants from the institution [Adam Shultz]

• I ENJOYED your Comment (A missed moment for a mature discussion on the future of the monarchy, May 4).

It is amazing to me that no political party dares to question the reasons for keeping a monarchy in the 21st century when inequality rises and nepotism decides who is head of state.

An elite gene pool as head of state surely contradicts the claim of equal citizenship. Even the language is disturbing. Your Majesty. Your Highness. Are we still in feudal England?

How can we proclaim that we are a free and equal society when the head of state’s finances, wills and property remains secret?

How can we promote a monarchy whose wealth was stolen from the English people; from the Jews expelled by the king in 1290; and from Africans who were made their slaves?

The brainwashing of those living in this country starts in early childhood and, as I have just seen on the streets of London, never stops. Vive la république!
