‘Time to investigate vulgarisms on BBC Radio 4’
• THIS autumn the BBC will be celebrating its centenary.
Founded in October 1922 its mission has been “to enrich people’s lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain”.
But what is needed now is a committee whose purpose should be to investigate vulgarisms on BBC Radio 4 and to make recommendations regarding them.
Many so-called comedies, containing swearing and other forms of bad language, are served up at evening meal times or when children are around. They would be better broadcast late at night.
It sounds strange to turn on the radio at prime times and then hear men and women using “the language of the playground”. And complaining about this leads nowhere!
