That dress is too expensive at £100K, Elizabeth II could easily pay for it

• I AGREE 100 per cent with Carole Taylor’s contention that £100,000 is far too much for Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, (It’s just too much, May 10).

It would be an obscene amount even if she was paying for it herself, which, of course, she is not. Ms Taylor rightly mentions homeless people who need taxpayers’ money far more than this already vastly wealthy couple.

My daily newspaper recently had a feature in which they itemised the cost of each aspect of this wedding; the total was £35million. Why should taxpayers have to fund that? The Queen is one of the richest women in the world; she could pay it without even noticing; and Prince Charles probably could too!

We’ve been hearing about problems with the NHS, meaning people have had to wait for necessary treatment, with the result that their conditions have deteriorated, leading to the need for more complicated – and probably expensive – treatment, in a vicious circle.

If a vast sum such as £35million is to be spent on any one specific issue, surely it should be something like that; not on a wedding, whoever the participants are!
