TfL’s letter displays an insolent attitude
Thursday, 21st March 2019
• I HAVE just received a letter from Paul Cowperthwaite, general manager road charging of Transport for London, dated March 3, telling me: “If you wish to use your vehicle in central London from 8 April 2019 and it does not meet the ULEZ emission standards there will be a daily charge of £12.50 per day.”
Later in his letter Mr Cowperthwaite helpfully points out that I have the option of getting a new car or walking. He does not point out that I have the option of doing precisely nothing for the next two-and-a-half years.
All residents registered for the Congestion Charge discount are 100 per cent exempt from the ULEZ charge until October 24 2021. I am registered. TfL know that. They have me on their computer. That’s how they were able to send their misleading and insolent letter.
The discount is clearly described on Transport for London’s website (see https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions#on-this-page-0). Mr Cowperthwaite should read it.
