Marble Arch mound 1

The Marble Arch Mound

• OVER recent weeks Labour councillors from Paddington to Pimlico have been contacted by council tenants who have been forced to live in the most appalling conditions following Westminster City Council’s failure to undertake necessary repairs.

Why is it that Boris Johnson’s favourite council was able to spend £6million on a useless mound at Marble Arch and yet failed to do repairs to flats in Forsythe House, Lillington Gardens, which ultimately led to the ceilings falling in?

How can Conservative councillors justify their decision to spend £6million on the Marble Arch Mound when there are flats in Longleat House where water has been penetrating from the walkway above for many years?

And why do Conservative councillors think it is acceptable to spend £6million on a mound at Marble Arch, which has made Westminster Council a laughing stock, when residents in Galton Street, Queen’s Park, have had damp at the rear of their home for 18 months?

Just as there is one rule for Johnson and his ministers and another rule for the rest of us, why are Westminster Conservatives exempt from the responsibility to spend public money on the needs of residents, rather than squander it on useless and expensive projects like the Marble Arch Mound?

Residents can give their answer next May when all Westminster councillors, including Johnson’s Conservatives, are up for election.
