Tell us the criteria for the ‘trial’ of these powered bikes
Thursday, 19th September 2019

• THANK you to Rosemary Nicholson for her letter on the problem of dockless bikes left on Camden’s pavements when not in use, (Dockless bikes are a nightmare for the visually impaired, September 5).
While e-bikes are a great idea, if cycled on the road or a designated cycle route, the presumption that they can just be left on the pavement to await the next customer is a blatant appropriation of public space by the private companies which own these bikes, including Uber.
Cars, as we have been reminded this week, cannot be parked on the pavement in London; neither should these powered bikes.
Camden Council has announced on their website that the arrival of the bikes on our street is a trial. I ask them now to publish both the framework by which they will assess the safety and benefits of these bikes and provide details of the public consultation programme which is obviously needed.
