Alex Reddy, now 14, ‘…he works first and then he relaxes’
THERE were success stories all around Westminster after hundreds of schoolchildren nervously opened their GCSE results.
One teenager deserves some high particular praise after getting top marks in five GCSEs taken when he was just 13. Home-schooled Alex Reddy, from St John’s Wood, got 9s in all five subjects: biology, chemistry, physics, Spanish, and statistics.
Dad Jason said: “He’s very happy.”
Last year Alex, who has recently turned 14, got grade 9s in maths, computer science, and Italian.
He had enjoyed learning from educational channels on YouTube, which he said were as good as the “best teachers” in the world.
Jason had said: “He thinks YouTube has the best teachers and that’s why he loves home-schooling because sitting in a classroom was a bit challenging for him.
“So his policy is he works first and then he relaxes.
“His favourite activity is playing table tennis. He also enjoys playing online games like Fortnite and Rocket League, with his friends.”
Last year Alex had been looking to create a “climate change simulation” or “a game engine”.
This year he has been working on a program to convert a picture of Albert Einstein into art using coding skills he has learned.
His YouTube channel is The Coding Kid.
Jason said: “Alex is still very much into programming. He has a YouTube channel, which he started when he was nine. He plays table tennis competitively and he attends youth clubs around London.”
A good result…
Students checking their results at Westminster Academy
SCHOOLS across Westminster were yesterday, Thursday, celebrating a range of impressive results right across the board.
At Westminster Academy the school reported above-average grades, with 70 per cent of students achieving a grade of 4 or above in English and maths.
Westminster head Numera Anwar said the school’s results “reflect the array of talents among the individuals of this cohort”.
