Students across Westminster scoop top grades in A-levels and BTECs

HUNDREDS of teenagers have kissed goodbye to school and begun a new phase of life after ripping open their exam results.

Sixth-formers across Westminster learned their fate yesterday, Thursday, after scooping top grades at A-level and BTECs.

Many are off to universities and apprenticeships after scooping A*s and Distinctions (D) in the examinations.

There were “exceptional results” at St Augustine’s School in Maida Vale, according to the headteacher Rachel Kelly, who said she was “incredibly proud”.

The school’s top achievers included Douaa Fouani who got A* grades in chemistry, mathematics and an A in biology; Syed Yousuf A* in chemistry and As in biology and maths; Mary Nasrallah A* in maths and two As in biology and chemistry, Zahraa Dhahad A* in psychology, A in biology and B in chemistry; Omar Ouadaa As in history and politics and a B in sociology.

Yousuf, Mary and Aya Mehdi are all going on further to study medicine.

At Westminster Academy, many students already had booked places at universities including Oxford, Imperial and University College London after getting their International Baccalaureate results last month.

Sixth-formers also take BTECs (the Business and Technology Education Council’s specialist work-related qualifications) at the school, with results also published yesterday.

Rim Tanjaoui El Hasbi achieved a triple distinction with two starred (D*D*D) and is off to study business management at Queen Mary University.

Ahmed El Saeidi got D*DD and will be taking up a place at UCL to study urban planning and real estate.

Aliza Zayn is also off to City University to study business management after achieving D*D*D* and 5s in IB maths and English.

Other destinations for IBCP (IB Careers Programme) students include Loughborough and Brunel, to study courses from Arabic and international relations to software engineering.

Maryam Haman is off to study social sciences at King’s College London after getting 34 points in her IB.

“I’m looking forward to meeting different people, and the topics of the course I’ll be studying look really interesting,” she said.

At MBS Sixth Form, there were many successes with teenagers off to study a range of courses from psychology to computer science.

Two pupils are off to Oxbridge.

Headteacher Richard Ardron praised the children’s “resilience and dedication”, and said: “I wish them the best for their next chapters.”
