Curb cyclist law-breakers
• IN your August 17 cycling special supplement you reported the proud boast of cyclist Mike van Erp regarding the number of motorists he had filmed and “shopped” when they used mobile phones at the wheel, and others driving through red lights, (CyclingMikey: ‘I don’t hate bad drivers – I hate the bad behaviours’).
He also featured in a similar report in Monday’s Evening Standard newspaper. His hypocrisy is astounding. Every day thousands (literally) of his fellow cyclists ignore red traffic lights, endangering themselves, pedestrians, and other traffic with no regard for the law.
Does he shop them? Of course not!
It’s the same with pavement riding. Only a couple of weeks’ ago I witnessed two mad maniacs riding at speed straight through two sets of red lights across the Great Cambridge Road at a busy intersection with traffic already moving across their path.
Instead of pontificating the merits of cycling, why doesn’t our Camden Council supremo Adam Harrison, cabinet member for a sustainable Camden, do something about this daily law-breaking and, with police co-operation, observe and stop the many cyclists who break the law.
