Frank Dobson
• AMONG the fitting tributes to Frank (Former health secretary Frank Dobson dies at 79, November 12), please remember he took the brave decision to save St Bartholomew’s Hospital from closure, commenting “I don’t wish to see over the gateway to Bart’s, opened by Rahere in 1123 and closed by Frank Dobson in 1998”.
Thousands of patients are grateful for Frank’s robust championing of this historic institution, still performing its original function after almost to 900 years but now, thanks to him, in brand new state-of-the-art facilities.
