‘William Hill allowed their business to stagnate’
• WILLIAM Hill has blamed their closure of 700 betting shops on the United Kingdom government’s decision to reduce the maximum stake on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) from £100 to £2.
Not true. Paddy Power betting shops are thriving because they provide better facilities, such as a wide range of sports coverage and betting opportunities with quality TV screens.
They never refuse a bet and their markets are more competitive, whereas William Hill allowed their business to stagnate for want of investment over the past 30 years.
Even their online service is poor compared with Paddy Power or Betfair. FOBTs and virtual reality sports betting was all they cared about. Hence their shops are empty if opposite a better outlet.
