So flags are OK as long as they represent minorities?

• THAT Zekria Ibrahimi (Patriotism is often a mistake, October 29) disagrees with my earlier comments on the Union Jack is hardly surprising.
So it would seem that flags are OK as long as they represent minorities. Sorry, but the suggestion that the rainbow flag speaks to “outsiders everywhere” is utopian fantasist nonsense.
Far from being “radical” this flag has been hijacked by the corporate world and public sector organisations to such an extent it has lost all meaning.
Not all gay people even feel welcome in Soho: it’s a brand which speaks to a particular audience.
Throwing “traditional” history “in the incinerator”, as suggested, is a sure-fire way to unite rather than divide people. I can’t think why the UN aren’t advocating it everywhere for world peace.
