Shake up the transport team running London Buses
Thursday, 6th April 2023

London mayor Sadiq Khan [@SadiqKhan]
• I APPEAL to London mayor Sadiq Khan to please shake up the transport team running London Buses.
When Ken Livingstone, our first mayor, set up Transport for London from scratch, he offered a 20 per cent pay increase to officers to lure them from local authorities to his new Transport for London team. But he didn’t say they would be allowed to fall asleep on the job.
Twenty years on and it’s all changed. Take the 274 and 88 bus routes for example. For four weeks, a minor, unnecessary, (but convenient to the contractors) road closure on Delancey Street makes buses miss out on dozens of stops as they are forced onto a route of no benefit to users for miles.
So from the 88 Bayham Street stop, the next stop is south of Portland Street station, effectively missing out all other Camden Town stops as well as those for the Regent’s Park estate.
The 274 does a similar tour (the Hampstead Road) to Euston Road and then round the Portland Road station building and the up to Gloucester Gate before it continues its route to Primrose Hill, London Zoo and Lancaster Gate. That is two or three miles, and pollution created and time wasted.
What about a local diversion into Camden High Street, then turn left into Jamestown Road, left into Arlington Road, then turn right into to Delancey Street for its designed route? That way there would be no stops left out.
Come on TfL team please wake up and learn. And an apology to stranded users would be appropriate.
