The Art Deco Night Owls perform at Lauderdale House on Sunday
A fundraiser for Opening Doors London (ODL), the largest LGBT charity for older people, is being held at St Saviour’s, Eton Road, Chalk Farm this Friday evening (December 8). Local lyric soprano Nadine Benjamin and friends are singing arias from Mozart, Verdi and Puccini operas. • Mozart’s Coronation Mass is being sung by the North Camden Chorus at St Mary Brookfield, Dartmouth Park, this Saturday evening (December 9). Soloists include Highgate soprano Sarah Probert. Also being sung is Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and music for Christmas by John Rutter and local composer Philip Godfrey – then there are Christmas carols with hearty audience participation. • The Greater Europe Peace Orchestra is playing at St George’s Bloomsbury on Sunday afternoon (December 10). The orchestra is made up of 17 young musicians from Ukraine, Russia and countries in Greater Europe. Being played are Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Beethoven’s Irish Songs and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. • Get your dancing shoes out. The Art Deco Night Owls are descending on Lauderdale House, Highgate, on Sunday evening (December 10). They’re specialists in recreating music and atmosphere of the Roaring 20s Jazz age and the Swinging 30s. Eight multi-instrumentalists playing the Chinese tom, temple blocks, cymbals and tuba as well as banjo, piano, saxophones, clarinets and trombone. Singer is Brian Webb either as a driving 20s singer or a 30s crooner. Leading early jazz dancer Nikki Santilli is showing how it’s done, whether it be the Charleston, Black Bottom or Balboa.
