• This autumn’s Islington Proms series at St James’s, Prebend Street, gets under way on Saturday evening (September 23) when Irish singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy sings songs from her acclaimed 2017 album Naked Music. It promises to be a super evening. McEvoy took up the violin at the age of eight and studied at Trinity College Dublin. She’s recorded 12 albums of music over the years and toured extensively, winning numerous awards.

• The popular NYJO Jazz Jam is back at Foyles this Sunday morning (September 24). Any budding jazz musican aged less than 18 is most welcome. Leading the jazz-jam is pianist Simon Purcell, former head of jazz at Trinity Laban College, and joining him is Amy Baldwin on double-bass and ex-NYJO drummer David Dyson. After Purcell’s combo opens the session, the floor will be open to jammers.

• The centenary of Degas’ death is being marked by a lunchtime concert next Wednesday (September 27) at the National Gallery given by the Florentine Arts Ensemble. Degas’ fascination with ballet is being explored through a programme of violin and piano music including pieces by Mendelssohn and Stravinsky.

• Come and sing at the new season’s first Big Sing at the Royal Opera House next Wednesday (September 27) in the ROH’s Clore Studio Upstairs. Being sung is a selection of musical highlights from the ROH’s autumn and winter programme, including choruses from La Bohème, Cavalleria Rusticana and Rigoletto.
