Sadiq Khan wields axe

London mayor Sadiq Khan
• WHEN did London mayor Sadiq Khan know of the delay in delivering Crossrail (Elizabeth line)?
If his answer of “two days” before the official announcement is correct, then he has demonstrated an appalling lack of civic responsibility and oversight for this multi-billion transport revolution.
If he knew sooner then his insistence for the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street in time to meet the arrival of Crossrail was a misleading campaign. Since Westminster City Council listened to its many residents and stopped the pedestrianisation, the mayor’s peevish reaction is to act by stealth.
Behind Transport for London’s poorly publicised, “sham”, consultations the mayor is intent on making the elderly, the less-abled, and residents, as well as commuters, walk along Oxford Street by axing bus routes.
The 94, 98 & 23 routes will not run along Oxford Street and other services are to be axed or curtailed. Squares and streets are to become bus stands in the mayor’s penny-pinching decimation of our integrated transport system. This is a shameful act by the “son of a bus driver” and a Labour mayor.
