Sadiq Khan is out to cut the bus network in the capital
Friday, 10th August 2018
• IT was brought to my attention six weeks ago that because of the Almacantar development, the southbound bus stop situated at Marble Arch on Edgware Road has been removed.
The removal of this bus stop has a big impact on our elderly and disabled residents and visitors who struggle to walk to an alternative bus stop.
Little or no notice of the removal of this bus stop was given and no substitute has been put in place for over two months. This situation is clearly unacceptable.
I contacted Transport for London to express my concerns about this move and ask how they intend to rectify this problem.
Their answer was unacceptable, with TfL saying that the stop has been closed due to “safety concerns” and that they hope to reopen the stop “in the near future”, with no specific date.
This is a small but important example which is symptomatic of the bigger picture. Sadiq Khan appears to be hell-bent on making it harder for Londoners to get around using London buses.
The mayor is intending to cut the bus network in central London by as much as 40 per cent, though getting data out of the mayor is all but impossible.
My most vulnerable constituents rely heavily on our bus network and I will continue to fight for it at both a local and London-wide level.
