ALESSIA Russo has been named England women’s Player of the Year for 2023/24.
The Arsenal striker played a key role helping the Lionesses qualify for Euro 2025, scoring three goals in six starts. Overall, Russo played 11 times in the 2023-24 international season, with her six-goal haul also earning her England’s top goalscorer award.
Russo is the fourth Arsenal player to be crowned England’s best in the past decade, following in the footsteps of Beth Mead, Jodie Taylor and Jordan Nobbs.
Russo is expected to lead the line when England host Germany in a friendly at Wembley tomorrow (Friday). Sarina Wiegman’s side also face South Africa in another friendly on Tuesday.
Russo and her Arsenal teammates head into the international break in a far better mood after the Gunners picked up a much-needed win in the WSL on Sunday – the north Londoners winning 2-0 away to West Ham in their first league match since Jonas Eidevall resigned as manager.
