ARSENAL fans are fretting over the fitness of Alessia Russo after their star striker had to withdraw from the England squad this week through injury.
The Lionesses briefly moved top of their Women’s Nations League group after beating Belgium 5-0 on Friday in Bristol.
Despite not getting amongst the goals, Russo proved a real handful before being subbed in the 73rd minute after taking a knock to her ankle.
The forward then had to miss England’s 3-2 defeat against the same opponents on Tuesday night having been sent back to her club for further assessment. Russo was replaced in the England squad by fellow Arsenal striker Michelle Agyemang, 19, who is currently on loan at Brighton.
Any potential lay-off for Russo would be a massive blow for Gunners’ boss Renee Slegers with the north Londoners busy preparing for their semi-final showdown against Lyon in the Champions League.
Arsenal will host the first-leg at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, April 19, in a 12.30pm kick-off before travelling to France to face the record eight-time Champions League winners again on Sunday, April 27.
