• LONDON mayoral independent and former Tory leader candidate Rory Stewart MP denies he is a spy but says he couldn’t admit it even if he was.

Before becoming a parliamentarian Rory Stewart has a colourful CV with stints as a soldier, diplomat and an administrator in Iraq.

Some are fooled by his genial personality and his so called moderate “one-nation” Tory style, with his man of the people collegiate apparel. No no.

He is an old style aristo-Tory who thinks he knows best. And while a minister in Theresa May’s government, when it came to austerity, slashed and burnt with the best of them.

In the current environment he might seem reasonable; but a tarantula on steroids could also be made to look good?

It won’t bother me. I’ve never voted Tory. The good news is him standing will split the Tory vote.
