One Museum Street in Holborn
• IT is disingenuous of Camden Council to claim they’re surprised that LabTech have ignored 11 existing flats when calculating the housing element of their proposed development at Museum Street, (Tower block does not have enough affordable homes, June 4).
Camden holds the council tax records and the electoral roll, so don’t tell me that they were unaware of the existence of these dwellings.
It seems wrong that the council can have numerous cosy meetings over two years, discussing the proposals for this large and prominent site, yet the local people don’t get a look-in.
How about consulting with local people before plans are drawn up to find out what sort of development would be right for the area?
The hideous cladding on the Travelodge hides a decent Modern movement building. This could be retrofitted for less cost, disruption and environmental damage than the current proposals.
This type of development pays no heed to the existential imperative of climate change. It’s time developers woke up to their civic responsibility.
